A rare late 18th Century Anglo Indian ivory veneered box with sandalwood interior. Vizagapatam. The ivory finely engraved with seven scenes of London and 2 further views of Blenheim and Eaton (Eton). All these views are from contemporary engravings. The domed top with a central engraving of Bethlem Hospital Gate, surrounded by four further views of Ranelaugh Gardens, Vaux Hall Gardens, Kensington Palace and the city of Westminster. The front panel showing St. Pauls, the reverse with Blenheim House. The side panels showing Westminster Abbey and Eaton College.

The silver hinges with the mark IT, possibly that of John Troby. The date stamp “c” for 1798.

This object incorporates old ivory and has been registered with Defra
