A Large Regency Gilt-Brass Jardiniere Stand Closely Based On A Design By Thomas Hope From Household Furniture And Interior Decoration, Plate XIX, No. 1
English. Second Quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
Of cast brass. The circular top now with inset inverted petasus shaped flower bowl. The frieze set with four lion mask and ring 'handles' interspersed by anthemion motif mounts. The central section with three tapering pilaster legs joined by x-form cross braces. The plain plinth with three protruding roundels above three zoomorphic cloven feet. The whole raised on original brass castors. This design was sometimes used in conjunction with copper cisterns, however this does not appear to have been the case with the present piece.
