A large Italian Renaissance bronze mortar.
A large and very heavy Italian mortar in wonderfully patinated bronze. Probably early 16th century, it is of inverted bell shape and is beautifully decorated with typical Renaissance designs including what appear to be dolphins and depictions of The Virgin and Child.
It stands 9 1/2 inches high and has a diameter of 12 inches.
