Muriel Bourne was born in Shrewsbury and studied at Wolverhampton School of Art. In 1918 she married the sculptor Sir Charles Wheeler, PRA, for whom she was a frequent model.
She worked as a painter and sculptor, exhibiting at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club and elsewhere. She was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and was President of the Society of Women Artists. Her lead bust of Sir Charles Wheeler is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London and her Mother and Child is in the collection of Newport Museum and Art Gallery.
