Kinkozan Satsuma koro of birds.

Kinkozan Satsuma ware dates as early as 1645 but became prolific manufacturers and exporters in the Meiji Period (1868-1912), where they grew into the largest producer of both commercial wares for the larger market and its renowned high end quality pieces decorated by its elite studio artists.

This Koro (incense burner) is unusually decorated and fabulously detailed in its fine gilded chicken wire effect fencing over beautifully painted birds and wildfowl.

Circa 1880.

9cm tall, 13cm diameter.
