Jardiniere and Stand.

In a wonderful book entitled Fantasy Furniture, there are pictures and descriptions of unusual and exotic furnishings produced throughout the 19th and early 20th century.

By the outbreak of World War 1, the furniture of that era passed into memory. Today we are rediscovering those shamelessly exuberant artifacts and welcoming them as lively additions to modern interiors.

I could not resist this vibrant pedestal. There is a matching jardinière but that met with a slight problem some time ago, fortunately the simple use of glue does not detract from the overall look.

Some of these pedestals were made at the Minton factory in England but my research would suggest that our example is most likely to have come from Zsolnay Ceramics in Hungary and can be dated to around 1880.
