Japanese inlaid shibuichi and silver vase worked in katakiri-bori of shakudo, shibuichi and gold with a sparrow in flight beneath foliage and berry branches, the neck simulating a running silver glaze signed to the body with chiselled characters Masachika koku 政近刻 (engraved by Masachika) with tomobako wood storage box, Taisho Period.

The sparrow (suzume 雀) is symbolic of happiness and prosperity.
