Japanese lacquer suzuribako (writing box), 19th century, of rectangular form, inlaid with cut-shell, the cover decorated with a pair of peafowl perched upon rockwork among flowering peony beside a river, a duck and butterflies overhead, the interior with inlaid ink stone and water-dropper, decorated with branches of flowers issuing from rockwork beside a meandering river.
