Japanese cloisonné enamel vase worked in silver wire decorated with two writhing coiled dragons, signed Tomiki Shobei 富木庄兵衛, Meiji Period.
In Japan the dragon (tatsu) is a water deity symbolic of power, wealth and prosperity and is also one of the twelve zodiac signs.
Tomiki Shobei opened his studio in Nagoya in 1882 and won medals at the Chicago Exposition 1893, St. Louis 1904 and Liege 1905.
