Japanese bronze Maruki group with dog.

The most prolific manufacturers of bronze figural groups such as this must be the Miyao Company, however this charming composition is the work of Maruki, who excelled in producing very fine wares in a variety of mediums.

This group features a young child clambering away from the reaches of a small pet dog, a Japanese Chin (similar to the Pekinese). Additional chiselling and finishing work, demonstrate understated elegance, finesse and refinement, seen in the clothes, hair and expressions of this well cast bronze. Signed upon the base.

Meiji Period (1868-1912).

Circa 1880.

32.5cm tall.
