An Interesting Pair Of Louis Philippe Black And Polychrome Tapering Pedestals In The Exotic Taste.
Probably French. Circa 1845.
Of polychrome painted and gilded wood on a black lacquered ground. Each pedestal with square top with molded edge. Below is a frieze set with unusual quasi-Gothic 'trefoil' decoration and geometric meander pattern. The frieze to the front has integral lambrequin extension whose shape is echoed in the decoration of the tapering midsection. The ogee base decorated with further 'trefoil' repeating designs rests upon a plain square plinth edged with gilded and painted fillets.
