A superb example of Parisian craftsmanship, constructed from Kingwood and dressed with well-cast and hand-chased gilt and silvered bronze mounts; of arc-en-arbalète outline, with two ormolu figural front supports representing caryatids of Hercules and Athena, terminating in hoof feet, the breccia marble undertier meeting the mirrored-back, flanked by stop-fluted kingwood pilasters with ormolu trailing flowers above; the frieze with quarter-matched kingwood to all sides enclosing a running band of gilded guilloches and silvered sunflowers meeting the central oak lined drawer faced with a scrolling acanthus and floral mount; the whole surmounted by a thumbnail moulded breccia marble top.

The ormolu mounts on this table are unusually novel, and although they are routed in earlier traditions established during the reign of Louis XVI, they do not correspond to designs usually encountered on 19th century revival furniture by craftsmen such as Henry Dasson, Paul Sormani, or François Linke many of who were supplied by the foundry of Christofle. The figural caryatids are likely inspired by a documented Dasson gueridon in the goût Weisweiler, sold Christie's, London, for £216,000 in 2007.
