Jane Emmet De Glehn (1873–1961).

Oil on panel.

30 x 40 cms 113⁄4 x 153⁄4 ins.

Provenance: The Artist’s family, Atelier number 1369.

On more extended painting journeys, the Wilfrid and Jane de Glehn found inspiration in the picturesque hilltop towns and villages nestled amidst the mountains that traverse from France through Switzerland to Italy. The Vallée du Var,  stretching from the Alps to the sea, provided Wilfrid with breathtaking panoramic views, becoming a recurring source of inspiration. Carros, a small town dominated by its twelfth-century château perched atop a lofty ridge, was a notable stop during their extensive painting expeditions through Provence. Their artistic explorations continued to medieval settlements such as Saint-Paul, Tourrettes-sur-Loup (no. 11), and beyond, where they established their easels and painting umbrellas to capture the flickering light and dazzling colour effects of the Provençal landscape.
