The Great Reform Act.

Title A New Topographical Map of the Country in the Vicinity of London, Describing all the New Improvements.

Author FADEN, William.

Publisher Published by James Wyld (successor to Mr. Faden), Geographer to His Majesty, 5 Charing Cross.

Publication place London.

Publication date July 3, 1829.

Engraved map on two sheets, joined, contemporary hand-colour, marking London's Parliamentary boroughs, extending north to south from Tottenham to Croydon, and west to east from Barnes to Woolwich, tear to upper portion of map skilfully repaired.

Notes

The border is marked off in miles, based on the meridian of St Paul's. The map marks the boundaries of the newly created Parliamentary boroughs of St. Marylebone, Finsbury, Tower Hamlets, and Lambeth - brought into being by the Great Reform Act of 1832. These were in addition to London, the City of Westminster, and Southwark, which had returned members to Parliament for centuries. They bear little relation to modern London constituencies, however, they do reflect the growth of London beyond the traditional areas of the City, Southwark, and Westminster.

Scale: 2 inches to 1 statute mile.
