An exceptional miniature bracket clock or mantel clock.  The rosewood case is a miniature copy of the full-size bracket clocks produced at this time and, unless you look at the picture of it alongside a giant carriage clock, you would not realize its size.  The case has the typical brass inlay to the sides of the white enamel dial, brass fish scale frets to the sides, gadrooned mouldings to the top and bottom and a glazed rear door.

The 4" convex enamel dial is signed for the maker Grant, Fleet Street, London and has nicely fretted blued steel hands.  

The eight day chain fusee timepiece movement is of fine quality with chamfered tops to the plates, and signed on the backplate Grant, Fleet Street, London.  It has a pendulum holdfast screw on the backplate and the pendulum has a mid-rod adjustment.

John Grant is recorded as working from Fleet Street from 1817 to 1867.  Both his father, with the same name, and him were excellent clockmakers and produced fine quality pieces.
