A good Virginia Walnut Chest of Drawers Circa 1760
A solid Virginia Walnut and Mahogany cross banded Chest of Drawers with unusual solid Cedar drawer linings. Flanked by reeded quarter columns and standing on bracket feet. With finely cast original rococo gilt bronze handles (escutcheons obviously later). Interestingly this pattern of handle was first used by Thomas Chippendale in the 1750’s but was used by Gillows of Lancaster as late as 1808 on a desk for Colonel Howard at Levens Hall in Westmorland.
Probably Lancashire Circa 1760 and given the Cedar linings possibly Estate made. Excellent colour and patination.
