Gold and Enamel English Verge.

A late 18th Century English verge in a gold and enamel consular case with matching ratchet key.  Full plate fire gilt fusee movement. Pierced and engraved cock, large diamond endstone in a blue steel setting, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc.  Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.  

Winding through the signed white enamel dial, Roman and Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands.  22 carat gold and enamel consular case, the bezels with a scalloped pattern of translucent dark blue and white champleve enamel.  The back of translucent dark blue enamel over an engine turned ground.  

Navette shaped polychrome enamel garden scene of a mother and two children within a white champleve enamel border.  Round gold pendant and stirrup bow, maker’s mark “I.W”.  Fine gold Breguet style ratchet key, the ring with  dark blue champleve enamel.  Short gold chain, a hinged gold clip with threaded safety collar at one end and small spring clip at the other.

George Philip Strigel, Pimlico, 1718 - 1798. Free of the Clockmakers Company 1781.  Watchmaker to Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.  In common with Vulliamy, who supplied a number of clocks and watches to the Royal family,  he used an alphabetic numbering system.
