A Georgian silkwork picture showing a country house undergoing the construction of lakes, perhaps Blenheim Palace, the grounds of which were originally set out by John Vanbrugh, but later modified by Lancelot “Capability” Brown who created two lakes from around 1761, seen as one of the greatest examples of naturalistic landscape design.
This silkwork retains the original press and ‘gilded’ brass frame, all circa 1780.
