Georgian mahogany serpentine serving table.
Eighteenth century serpentine mahogany serving table of exceptional colour and patination, the plain cross-banded frieze centred by a tablet with laurel swag and paterae flanked by a pair of concealed oak lined drawers. The moulded and canted tapered legs are headed by sunflower paterae and terminate with spade feet. The sides are also of serpentine form.
After designs popularised by Sheraton and Hepplewhite, the related tablet features on a sideboard illustrated by H. Cezinsky. English Furniture of the 18th century Vol 111 fig.11.
