GEORGE IV GONCALO ALVEZ BREAKFRONT SIDE CABINET ATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS.

England.

Circa 1820.

The superstructure with a pierced brass three-quarter gallery on reeded leaf moulded supports, above a shaped and galleried shelf on plain baluster supports, with mirror back, the base of the breakfront outline with rosette carved frieze above three doors flanked by fluted pilasters with scroll capitals, the side doors with pleated silk behind brass grilles, the central door with pleated yellow silk, each enclosing a cupboard with three adjustable shelves, above a continuous ribbed moulding leading to reeded bun feet.

Measurements: Width 60” (153cm) Height 55 “(139cm) Depth 16 1/2”(42cm).

Much of the idiosyncratic detail on this cabinet can be seen in fully documented pieces by Gillows Accordingly we have no hesitation in our attribution and therefore conclude that this Cabinet was made by Gillows, and probably in their London workshop.
