Amber Glass Chandelier After Vittorio Zecchin.

Italy, circa 1930.

A fine early twentieth century Murano chandelier after Vittorio Zecchin in amber glass, with six inverted arms with glass shades, the central stem gadrooned and twisting, and all terminating in inverted dome with teardrop finial to the base.

Raised in Murano, Italy, Vittorio Zecchin was first exposed to the art of glassmaking by his father, Luigi Zecchin. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, Zecchin began working for Artisti Barovier in 1913 and was then appointed artistic and technical director of the Vetri Soffiati Muranese Cappelin-Venini & Co.in 1921 when the firm was founded. Zecchin disliked the heavy ornamental style that dominated the late 19th century, thus his purist shapes in pastel colours had no external decoration and were in startling contrast to traditional Venetian glass.
