Fathers Foundry Skillet; 'Loyal To His Magiste'.
A leaded bronze skillet from the Montacute, Somerset foundry of John Fathers I.
Motto skillets were an important part of the Fathers foundry output for a period of at least forty two years, as evidenced by dated examples between 1670 & 1712.
This pan is an example of their well known model cast with the royalist motto to the handle 'C V B LOYAL TO HIS MAGISTE', a cryptogram for 'See you be loyal to His Majesty', King Charles II.
dia:7.5 in x length:18.25 in.
In order to restore level to this pan the two front legs have been built up by a blacksmith, evidently sometime during the 18th century.
For a similar example see Bonhams Chester, The Oak Interior, 25th July 2013.
