The set numbers thirty six, 36, pieces - twelve place settings. The Dessert Spoons, Dessert Forks and Ice Cream/Sorbet Spoons are made in the Old English Thread pattern and are double struck. All pieces are engraved with a contemporary Crest and all are very well marked.
The set comes with a beautiful pair of Old English Thread, double struck, Ice Spades, which although engraved with a different set, are of the same date and maker. It was the fashion in the 18th century to eat dessert with silver gilt flatware, following on from the tradition in pre Revolutionary France.
Richard Crossley was a superior flatware maker and each piece is in excellent condition. Eighteenth century Dessert Services, of all one date and maker, seldom appear on the market today, especially in this condition.
