An extremely fine and rare George III Silver Gilt Serving Fork made in Dublin in 1808 by Samuel Neville.
This very fine piece is modelled in the fiddle, thread and shell pattern and is double struck. The bowl displays six tines and the top of the stem is finely engraved with a contemporary Armorial. Sometimes referred to as Potato Forks, this piece is of an exceptional gauge and in excellent condition, with crisp marks. The Arms are those of Sir Robert Hodson, 1st Baronet of Hollybrooke House, Bray, Co. Wicklow and Green Park, Co. Westmeath, impaling those of Neville for his second wife Jane, eldest daughter of Brent Neville of Ashbrook, Co. Dublin, whom he married in 1799. Sir Robert's first wife died without surviving issue and on his death, on 19th July, 1809, he was succeeded by his eldest son from his second marriage.
