An Exceptional George III Jug on Lampstand by Paul Storr, London 1807.

The Jug is modelled in the Regency Classical revival style. The main body has a pyriform body decorated with an unusual wide lobed band, which acts as a projecting ledge to support the jug on its stand.  A band of fruiting berries encircles the neck and the hinged cover terminates in a lobed platform and stylised acorn finial.

This example has a pronounced pouring spout and the fruitwood handle is attached to the main body with beautiful acanthus leaf mouldings.  The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Armorial, with Crest above, and the motto "Alius Et Idem" below. The Arms are those of the Ryder family of Newbury, granted July 1662.

The tripod lampstand has three Classical legs decorated with leaf capping, linear designs, scrolls and very detailed lion paw feet.  The rim is decorated with gadrooning, acanthus foliage and raying shells. The rim also displays three circular suspensory rings. The central spirit burner has a removable lobed cover and both the stand and burner are engraved with a contemporary Crest.

The Jug and Lampstand are in excellent condition and are fully marked on the base of the jug and the stand.  This design of Jug is primarily associated with the Storr workshops.

Height, to the top of the handle: 12.25 inches.

Diameter of the stand: 6.3 inches.

Total Weight: 54oz.
