An attractive early 20th Century cold painted bronze and ivory figure of a young lady dressed in period winter warmer attire, with fine cold painted colour and excellent hand carved detail, raised on a marble base and signed D H Chiparus.

Chiparus – The Master of Art Deco

Demetre Chiparus (1886-1947) was a prolific Romanian sculptor who moved to Paris in 1912 and married Julienne Lullier in 1925 to become naturalised in France, where he lived the rest of his life. He was renowned for his exquisite Art Deco sculptures which were purely decorative but avidly sought after by art connoisseurs. His work epitomized the opulence and elegance of the Roaring Twenties, an era marked by cultural and artistic transformation and was first exhibited in the Salon of 1914.

Chiparus' sculptures are characterized by their intricate detailing and superb craftsmanship. He frequently depicted dancers, athletes, and exotic figures, capturing their grace and movement with meticulous precision. His sculptures often featured materials such as ivory, bronze, and marble, showcasing his versatility and technical prowess.
