An early 18th century bronze sundial.
A lovely sundial with original gnomon and excellent verdigris patination. It is engraved with a smiling sun and is dated 1719 and signed Thomas Booth-Hull.
It is also engraved with the Latin inscription "Utque redit viam constans quam suspiris umbra fugax homines non reditura samus" which translates "As a result of the shadow, of the shadow of the way, and to return to the way to return to the shadow".
10 inches square and the gnomon is 4 inches high.
