Diamond Set Enamel Ball Watch and Brooch.

Anonymous: Swiss.
Circa: 1900.
Diameter: 19 mm.

A fine late 19th Century Swiss lever gold and enamelled  ball watch set with split pearls and diamonds with matching brooch.  Unusual keyless gilt movement constructed with the train wheels above the going barrel.  Plain sector cock with polished steel regulator.  Compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.

Club foot right angle lever escapement.  Small white enamel dial with blue Arabic numerals, the 12 o’clock marking in red, gilt minute markings and hands.  The case is constructed in three parts, the gold middle with a row of split pearls.  The two gold hemispheres of translucent red enamel set with small diamonds in a trefoil clover pattern.

The watch is wound and set by turning the top hemisphere of the case in relation to the lower hemisphere.  Matching diamond and pearl set gold and enamel brooch.  In a cream velvet lined presentation box covered in red morocco.

A good example of these keyless ball watches with a compensation balance and lever escapement.  This is one is smaller than the standard and also benefits from having its original brooch.
