Chinese ruby ground lobed brush washer, Daoguang mark and period (1820-1850), of moulded ruyi head form, the body with four shaped cartouches containing scenes of flowers emerging from rockwork and insects, the ruby ground decorated with scrolling lotus pattern, interlocking leaf work and tasselled bat motifs, the interior with turquoise enamel ground, the base similarly glazed with six-character archaistic square seal mark in iron red
