Chinese famille verte square-section vase, Kangxi (1662-1722), the sides decorated in bright enamels with peony, lotus, chrysanthemum and prunus; the lotus emerging from the ground with leaves and buds, the others issuing from rockwork with grasses, birds and insects, the neck with four floral sprays, the base with a single artemisia leaf in underglaze blue.

Condition: Neck missing.

Provenance: The flowers of the four seasons comprise prunus (winter), peony (spring), lotus (summer) and chrysanthemum (autumn). Together, the flowers symbolise good fortune and safety throughout the year.
