Chinese famille verte plate, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated in fine overglaze enamels with a scene depicting three dignitaries and an attendant standing in a rocky garden that juts out into the ocean, in audience with the Dragon King, who raises his antlered head above the choppy waters, with the rooftops of the palace building visible through the clouds; the rim with alternating leaf and pomegranate-shaped cartouches containing butterflies against a rich background of flowering magnolia, peony, lotus, chrysanthemum and prunus on a green stippled ground.
