Chinese famille verte plate, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated in the centre with flowering boughs of peony and magnolia issuing from rockwork, with flying insects and a pair of birds, one perching and another in flight overhead; the wide rim with eight lobed cartouches containing a variety of flowers including dianthus, peony, forget-me-not, cherry blossom, aster and lotus, all against alternating liewen grounds in turquoise and iron-red, the reverse with three floral sprays and central artemisia leaf within concentric circles in underglaze cobalt blue
