Chinese famille rose octagonal armorial plate.
Qianlong (1736-95).
Decorated in the centre with a spray of flowers, above with the arms of Grant of Darlway, Scotland, gules a boar's head couped between three Eastern crowns, within a bordure all or, crest a hand couped at the wrist holding a branch of laurel fructed proper, with the motto 'Radicem firmant frondes', all within a double-spearhead border separated by small sprays of flowers.
This service was made for Charles Grant of Darlway and Waternish, Inverness-shire, (c. 1746-1823). He was director of the East India Company (1797-1823) and Chairman in 1805, 1809 and 1815, and director of the South Sea Company.
