Chinese famille rose armorial salt.
Qianlong (1736-95).
Decorated with the arms of Bennet (gules a bezant between three demi lions argent, with the crest a demi lion argent holding in its paws a bezant), within a chain border.
The bezant in the lion's paws indicate that this salt was probably made for the Bennet family of Finsbury in London, a merchant family of the later 18th century.
For a plate with the arms of Bennet, see Howard, 'Chinese Armorial Porcelain', Vol. I, p. 613, pl. S2.
