BG60 A CHINESE WANLI BLUE AND WHITE 'KYLIN' JAR
The cylindrical body with a short straight foot , the sloping shoulder rising to a low neck, the body decorated in shades of cobalt blue with playful Buddhist lions amongst scrolling leafy peony stems, the shoulder with a lingzhi and foliate meander.

The Fo lion (or Dog of Fo) is an emblem of valour and energy, and are often found in pairs guarding important buildings. They are sacred to Buddhism: Manjusri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is depicted riding a Fo lion to represent the use of wisdom to tame the mind.
