Chinese blue and white European market plate.
Kangxi (1662-1722).
Decorated in the centre with a monogram above a laurel wreath and a love knot above. The border with a garland of fruiting passion flower.
Whilst it is not known who commissioned this pattern, Jochem Kroes suggests that the plate may have been ordered by a married female due to the predominance of female imagery. For further information see Kroes, Jochem, 'Chinese Armorial Porcelain for the Dutch Market', p. 106, pl. 3.
