Georgian Iron Doorstop.

Simply wonderful cast iron two-part doorstop in the form of a recumbent lion set with glass eyes.

Early 19th century, possibly American. It is thought that this model has been made in two parts to be used in a room divided by a pair of doors. When both doors are needed to be kept open, the lion can be lifted from its plinth base and transferred to the second door; the base ample in weight to keep the first door open.

For a similar doorstop see Skinner's auction, lot No.780 August 2012, reputedly found at the Amherst Flea Market, New Hampshire.

w:9 in x d:4 in x h:6.5 in.
