Canton enamel quatrelobed tray, late Qianlong (1736-95).
Decorated with European figures in a garden by a terrace with pillars and an oval doorway in which stands a figure with a cat.
The centre painted with a man seated at the foot of a tree with a baby on his lap and a woman with her arms on his shoulder beside him sits and older child. To his left a man with a tricorn hat and a lady and two children are seated at the base of a pine tree, to his right a lady stands by the steps holding a baby in her arm looking at a young boy with a piece of coral in his hand. In the foreground is a brook with rockwork.
Te border decorated with four cartouches containing scrolling flowers against a diaper background. The reverse with a boating scene on a lake with two bridges, pine tree in the foreground against a mountainous background.
Diameter: 30.3 cm. (11 15/16in.).
This tray is extremely rare and early Qianlong.
