A remarkable antique Ziegler carpet, from one of the best workshops in the world in Sultanabad, Persia, the palette on this carpet and flowing all over design is breathtakingly beautiful! A rare sage green border, an expensive and scarce dye, the terracotta main field colours is warm and inviting with pale blues, yellows and off white tones. The whole composition has been expertly woven and beautifully drawn, as you would expect from this workshop in the late 19th century. Condition is marvellous with a high soft wool pile.
Ziegler & Co a Manchester-based Swiss producer was a genius in creating the worlds most desirable and decorative carpets. Using wool from Manchester, UK he had workshops in Sultanabad and supplied Liberty and Harvey Nichols. Ziegler & Co were instrumental in shaping how decorative carpets would be produced in Persia and what designs would be woven in Sultanabad for the next 50 years. The company's designs were essentially Western versions of finer Persian designs, their large scale floral designs and often enormous sizes were modified to the specifications of Western retailers. Most of the Ziegler production was shipped to New York and London.
Our home visits can be requested for anywhere in the UK, we have travelled as far as Scotland and Ireland to show our carpets in situ. Visiting our barn showroom is available Monday to Saturday and can be booked in by appointment on our website too.
