An early decorative Antique Sultanabad carpet, woven around 1880 with gorgeous faded colours. A deep blue background works so well with the open flowing floral design and refined detail. We can even see small bird motifs which is unusual for this weaving area. Wonderful muted colours of soft pinks, yellows, greens and pale blue dyes balance well with the soft red to faded terracotta border colour.
Condition is good, with pile over the main areas of this 140 year old carpet. We can see some wear and lower areas of pile in places, please view all the additional images. With the age of this beautiful carpet it is not uncommon to see, and in many ways enhances its appeal. Supplied with our sturdy underlay it would protect the carpet for many years and prevents wear and it moving on a floor.
