This elegant room-size carpet was made around 1880 for the Manchester company Ziegler & Co. in their workshop in Sultanabad - hence the name 'Ziegler carpet'.
'Ziegler carpets' were targeted at the European market and are still highly sought after, especially pieces with a soft palette. This example is a very desirable room-size carpet in the elegant colour scheme that 'Zieglers' are most famous for, and it is in great original condition. The scale and simplicity of design, mostly floral patterns, and the subtlety of the colours make this a very elegant carpet.
