Antique Persian Tabriz carpet dating to around 1900.
Large and small flower heads in a great range of colours, including several shades of blue, green and yellow, decorate the field on a red ground in an all over design. The main border on a blue ground features the same flower heads found in the field. It is flanked by two minor borders on a pale yellow ground. The effect of the composition is that of great balance and sweet but unobtrusive cheerfulness.
The relative subtlety of the colours, combined with the even spread of floral motifs and the scale of this room size carpet make this Tabriz a very desirable, decorative furnishing carpet.
Wool pile on a cotton foundation, over all in very good condition with a few areas of slight wear.
