19th century Theodolite.

19th century mahogany cased theodolite. The brass and gilt brass level has a rotating circular base with thumbscrew adjustment and a compass with silvered dial and stop lever engraved with maker’s name, W & S Jones, 30 Holborn, London.

The telescope is supported on its axis by two A frames and is fully adjustable by thumb screws, the radius is engraved with a scale and the telescope also has a bubble level attached.

The folding mahogany tripod stand is brass mounted and the brass centering plate is also adjustable. W & S Jones were at 30 Holborn from 1800 - 1860 and were amongst the most successful scientific instrument makers in London.
