This long carpet of kelleh proportions was made in the late 19th century in the Kurdish part of Iran.
The field on a dark blue ground is an all-over so-called Herati design, enclosed by a sequence of borders with a meander of floral patterns. It has beautiful, saturated colours which are all naturally dyed.
The carpet is woven in a wool pile on a wool foundation and is in very good condition.
