A superb and rare early 18th century inlaid Welsh oak side table. The two-piece top has a curved under-edge moulding above a framed single drawer that is delicately inlaid with holly and which has a geometric scrollwork design terminating with tulip head buds. The drawer is above a bold ogee shaped and cockbeaded frieze. There are four well-turned legs that are united by full stretchers and raised on carved ‘braganza’ style feet. The table is made from well-figured Welsh oak which has a wonderful rich colour and surface.

Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales circa 1720.

This style of the inlaid decoration relates to the inlay tradition found on some furniture in parts of South Wales such as the Vale of Glamorgan and South Pembrokeshire. The design and form of this table is very similar to other tables from the Vale of Glamorgan.
