17th Century Pierced Brass Double Candle Sconce.

Netherlands, circa 1680

Pierced and incised decoration
Rare pair of hinged brass wings with original brass catches
A pair of figures either side of a heart.
Two candle holders
Hanging and freestanding

An exceptionally rare, late-17th century, pierced, brass, double candle sconce with wings

Condition
Given its portability and function it has survived in incredible original condition
The punchwork and fretwork has a naïve vernacular charm
Right hand side wing has an old break and repair which is visible
I think the left hand side wing is a C18 or C19 replacement.
It bears the original catches holding the wings in place which is incredible.
I have not polished it so the patina can be burnished if required but left if not

Dimensions

28.00cm high (11.02 inches high), 25.00cm wide (9.84 inches wide), 8.50cm deep (3.35 inches deep)
