George III Chippendale Period Table top Wine Cooler

" Spectacular Example Of An English Octagonal Table Top Wine Cooler " -  Cellarette of the George 111 period, executed in the finest quality solid and veneered mahogany with a variation of geometric panels of octagonal and polygon design , using a mixture of exotic West Indian Satinwood, Ebony ,Boxwood and Tulipwood .These naturally patinated by a consistent soft waxing over a period of two hundred and forty years . With a rising top revealing the original lead lining  ,the whole being bound and strapped by three heavy brass bandings ,with strong - heavy oval finger grip shaped carrying handles .

The quality and the individual design suggest a private commission with a strong hint of Thomas Chippendale and Gillows of Lancaster .Third quarter of the 18th century .

The cellarette standing upon the original eight sided stand with wonderfully carved carved flutings to the top rail and typial strong Chippendale moulded legs finishing in the original brass roller casters .

Provenance    Purchased by ML for a collection in Madrid Spain 30 years ago at Christies Auction .
