A pure English Regency Period Mahogany Freestanding Library Desk Table of Particular Interest to the Collector of Original Furnitures.

What makes this table excel is its 'left alone state'. The timber used in its construction and the extraordinary condition, having the most wonderful natural waxed patination and chosen veneers, in particular to the two front panelled doors which put this piece in a class of its own.

Another point, elevating this piece to above normal standard is the use of a stunning mahogany veneer instead of the usual leather top, making this fit for the drawing room or library, instead of the office.

The two crossbanded panelled doors to the fore, with beautifully choice figured sunken panels surrounded by four spiral rope twisted columns.

The rear also having two plain sunken panelled doors with dummy drawers above. Both side ends having each two sunken panels. All upon a moulded plinth with four blocks supporting the spiral columns.

Almost certainly a Gillows of Lancaster and London piece - different enough to suggest a special private commission .

Provenance: St Ouen Jersey, and Michael L Private Collection.
