Gray M.C.A Set Sail For New York Fashion Week

BADA members Gray M.C.A will be taking their flair for high fashion to the high seas this Autumn with an exhibition on the Queen Mary 2’s glamorous Transatlantic Fashion Crossing for New York Fashion Week.

From August 31 to September 7 2017, Gray M.C.A, in association with Clarendon Fine Art, will present an exclusive preview of their highly acclaimed Fashion Illustration exhibition ‘Drawing on Style, Three Masters of Elegance’ on board the Cunard Lines’ luxurious flagship, ahead of the exhibition’s opening in New York on September 5.

As the title suggests, ‘Three Masters of Elegance’ will showcase the remarkable works of three leading artists; W Magazine’s most famous & influential fashion illustrator Kenneth Paul Block, New York contemporary fashion illustrator Bil Donovan and Dior Beauty’s artist in residence and celebrated British fashion illustrator Jason Brooks.

Kenneth Paul Block’s fashion illustration influenced over half a century of style.  His extraordinary ability to document a look in just a few brief fluid brush strokes made him an essential figure in the communication of American fashion of the late 20th century. His dynamic illustrations for Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Halston, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein & Issac Mizrahi were so influential that Block is credited with being a key factor in placing New York firmly at the centre of the world fashion stage.

Bil Donovan is today’s most important American contemporary fashion illustrator, with a unique talent to capture the essence of a fleeting moment in a timeless and elegant style.  His appointment as artist in residence to Dior Beauty in 2009 catapulted him into becoming a giant of fashion interpretation & a contemporary master.  He communicates a balance of luxury & sophistication through his brush that is instantly recognizable.  His portfolio of clients includes, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, The New York Times, WWD, Luxure Magazine, Dior & St Regis Hotel chain. 

Jason Brooks standout style as a fashion illustrator is recognized worldwide. His career has been meteoric, recruited by British Vogue in his early twenties direct from the prestigious St Martins School of Art, his elegant bold silhouettes inspired by Japanese art & 20th century fashion photography is a creative fusion that has put him at the forefront of contemporary fashion illustration.  Clients include Elle, Virgin Atlantic, Veuve Cliquot & Chanel.  He has published two important books: ‘Paris Sketchbook’ & ‘London Sketchbook’. Launching during Drawing on Style 2017 is the much anticipated ‘New York Sketchbook’, which will be available to buy at Gray M.C.A in New York.

An exclusive talk to accompany the exhibition by legendary fashion writer Colin McDowell will be held during the crossing.
