BADA to accept 20th-century & contemporary dealers

The British Antique Dealers’ Association is delighted to announce that it will be extending its membership to include dealers who specialise in high quality 20th-century and contemporary fine art, as well applied art, such as 20th-century post-war design items. Hitherto admission to membership has been open only to dealers whose stock includes a significant number of antique (pre-1914) items.

Although the removal of the 100-year dateline represents a change for BADA, it is a natural progression for the Association in a constantly evolving world. Whilst antiques remain at the core of the Association, an increasing number of existing members have expanded into high quality objects that were created in the final decades of the 20th century and many of its picture dealers already sell works by contemporary artists. Many fine objects were created in the 20th century, and now, for the first time, if a dealer specialises exclusively in high calibre post-1914 items, they can be admitted to the association.

The British Antique Dealers’ Association intents to continue to represent high standards of dealing and is therefore delighted to be able to recruit from among the best dealers within these additional, but related, disciplines.
